Meaning of the plates

Diverse letters and numbers can be found on the numberplates in Aruba, these have following meaning;

• A - Regular numbers, normal vehicles
  
  
  
• V - Rental cars
  
  
  
• O - Special vehicles
  
  
  
• T - Tourist and bus vehicles
  
  
  
• TR - Trucks
  
  
  
• TX - Taxi’s
• D - Dienst (government) vehicles
• Self made up numbers can also be registered (pending some conditions)

Road tax

The plates indicate that you have paid road tax for at least 1 period of 3 months, if there is also a little plate on the left side over the big plate in contrasting (but the same) colors this means that the tax has been paid for all 4 periods (a full year).

Color of the plates

The color of the plates changes every year.

Ownership

The number does not belong to the vehicle but to the owner of the number.
