General

The florin is the official currency of Aruba, indicated by AWG.
The florin was introduced in 1986, replacing the Netherlands Antillean gulden at par.

Coins

Coins are available in denominations of 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents, 1 and 5 florins. The square shaped 50-cent "yotin" coin is probably Aruba's best-known coin.

Bank notes

Banknotes are in denominations of 10, 25, 50, 100, and 500 florins.

Exchange rate

The currency has been pegged to the United States dollar at US$1 = 1.7900 florins since 1986.

Accepted currencies

You can pay everywhere on the island with both US$ and arubian florin's.

The Antillean florin is not accepted. This is especially important for the people from the Netherlands and other european country's because some travel-agencies will tell you that you can pay on Aruba with Antillean florin's. This is NOT the case.

ATM, credit cards and cash

There are several ATM machines across the island. When you're in the hotel area you can use the ATM machines in the casino's (you may have to pay for this service if you're not playing). When using an ATM machine you can choose between withdrawing either US$ or AWG. Also most credit cards are accepted, but when purchasing something from a small enterprise like the independent people on the beach that do water sports you will have to pay in (florin/US$) cash.
