The Weather In Aruba

Good news

In Aruba the newspapers hardly ever publish a weather report. They don't need to. Around here, "sunny and warm" is not news. With an average rainfall of less than 500 mm (20 inches) a year, an average daytime temperature of 82° Fahrenheit (27° Celsius), a location completely outside the hurricane belt, and the constant cooling influence of the trade winds, Aruba is one of the most temperate islands in the Caribbean. And just as comfortable in July as it is in January. Typical view on Aruba.

Sun and Temperature

The difference between median day and night temperatures, and between summer and winter temperatures, is just 3.6°. The rainfall occurs mainly in short showers during November and December.

Aruba is perfect if you are looking for a truly sun filled vacation. On very rare occasions only does it not shine. Since Aruba is so close to the equator, the sun is very bright. Luckily, Aruba is always cooled by a pleasant see breeze. This wind makes it sometimes feel a bit cooler than it really is. Therefore you should always be very careful in the sun and use a high factor of sun block.

Since the equator runs about 12 to south, the sun is strong, especially between 11 am and 3 pm, and visitors enjoy morning sunrises and evening sunsets at roughly the same times each day, regardless of the seasons. From January to March, the trade winds provide ideal windsurfing conditions off the windward coast. Since the terrain is almost flat, these same winds sweep clouds quickly over the island without allowing moisture to build into rain showers. Therefore, the sea off the leeward coasts is rarely stirred up by a storm, and visitors may count on ideal conditions for scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming or fishing!

Hurricanes and rain

The island of Aruba is about 70 square miles of the Antilles and just around 20 miles from Venezuela. Aruba is approximately six miles wide and 20 miles long. The climate tends to be mostly dry with and average humidity staying around 60%. Relatively, hurricane free unlike most Caribbean islands Aruba is unique in the fact that it is located just out side what is called the "hurricane belt". This means that based on its location it does not sit in the seasonal path where hurricanes usually form and travel. So, even if you select to visit Aruba during hurricane season, hurricanes for Aruba are not a big concern. Granted no one can tell what Mother Nature will do but based on hurricane patterns, trade winds, and history you can rest easy in Aruba.

Now, the rainy season brings refreshing misty showers that come and go like the wind. Usually vacationers enjoy these light gentle rains that often feel so refreshing when you're out lying on the beach. Aruba's actual rainy season is considered to be November December.

Annual Rainfall Averages for Aruba

Month Average rainfall (inch)
January 2.2
February 1.0
March 0.7
April 0.9
May 0.8
June 1.0
July 1.4
August 1.3
September 1.2
October 3.9
November 4.6
December 4.0

As you can see even in the rainy season 4.0 inches of rain spread out over a month won't dampen anyone's vacation fun.
