Healthcare On Aruba

Everyone that lives in Aruba is insured by the general health insurance, the AZV. This is an obligatory insurance that was introduced as per January 2001. A limited number of provisions is not covered by the AZV. For instances, the higher classes insurance in the hospital, glasses, dental care for adults, and care abroad during vacation. If you would like to be insured for these provisions, you should contact your insurance company for supplemental health insurances.

There are different doctors, detists and other medical specialist on the island, but when you go to the AZV office to register you will have to give them the names of your doctor, dentist and pharmacy. Therefore it is wise to check which one you want to go to before you register at the AZV. Aruba is well equipped to handle virtually every medical problem. In unique cases where the island's own medical services do not cover the emergency, a patient can be quickly airlifted to nearby facilities (ie. In Curacao).

Aruba boasts the Dr. Horacio Oduber Hospital, a medical facility equipped with reputable medical staff, 280 beds and modern equipment. The hospital, opened in 1976, is located across from Punta Brabu Beach, and is within walking distance of some of the hotel district. It functions as a general hospital with established ties to the U.S., Colombian, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican,and Dutch hospitals for specialized treatment and care.
