Some species have, for example, small or leather-like leaves to resist loss of water through evaporation. Other species drop their leaves in the dry season to limit the loss of fluids. Most birds and other animals are active especially early in the morning and in the late afternoon when it is not too warm. This is also the best time to see them. Some animals are real nocturnal, like for example the bats.

To preserve all this, Aruba has a nature reserve, Parke National Arikok. Parke National Arikok is thus far special, that it serves to protect our natural environment, but likewise gives an excellent opportunity to the interested individual and an increasing number of people to get to know that what makes Aruba's flora, fauna, geology and cultural-history so unique.
